a male. they ve not released his name and they havenot told us whether he was driving or a passenger on the bus. but they did tell us they have to notify the famiy. i want to step out of the way, because i want to show y -- i want to show you the hov flyaway because at this point what we know i that this 26 passenger wolfbus, this tour bus, shortly around 4:00 was leaving the d.c. area traveli northbound and somehow someway it left the roadway completely, went airborne, hit the em bankment. at some point after tt it rested on a jersey wall north of the democracy boulevard on northbound 270 here, resng on the jersey wall. earlier we thought it hit cars sp upon impact. it did not happen. there were at least two cars that hit trying to swerve the light st. again, as you mentioned, 12 people taken to the hospital. four of them are in critical condition. wi talked to a woman right after we arrived on the scene here who was travel behd the bus. she became part of the rescue effort. let's take a listen as to what she had to say. >> we had to stop. we were calling 911 and helping o

into what caused it. now the latest on this. >> the use of this fire remains under investigation. while there's been lots of speculation about what caused it go we're still awaiting word from investigators about what caused the fire. meanwhile, what is known is that a lot of homes, a lot of lives have been disrupted by this. and there is an outpouring of support moral and otherwise for those lives were changed. across the street, vinyl siding and a cable box melted from the extreme heat. it started in about 3:00 p.m. thursday. smoke could be sen for miles. concern for flooding flames will will for block. >> they did move us a block up the road. we just live right up the street and debris was flying into our yard. >> reporter: there was a challenge for firefighters. the home were close together. >> access was somewhat limited. and our fire an rat us is rather large, trying to place that in a most advantageous situation. >> reporter: the fire was eventually put down. the aftermath proved too much for one homeowner. >> just to maybe -- terrible. >> when they were building them, i sa

on there. >> at this time i was not in view of it so i can't comment on that. >> can you tell us how many shooters there were and was it just one shot? >> i'm sorry. what was the question? >> how many shooters were there? snipers were there? >> i don't know yet. that is still under investigation. >> the suspect in this case was arrested as a result of a protest, i guess, at discovery in february of 2008. as a result of that arrest, he was charged with disorderly conduct. he was convicted and serve ad ten-day sentence for disorderly conduct for the protest he did here. he was taking homeless individuals and paying them sum of money to protest with him at the site of this building. as a condition of this probation in 2008, he was ordered to stay at least 500 feet away from the discovery building. his probation ended two weeks ago. >> david, do you expect to be back open for business tomorrow morning? >> we'll be communicating with employees later tonight. it is an active crime scene. >> [ inaudible ]. >> at this time we need to get back to the command post. we thank you very much. that

. doug kammerer joins with us the latest. >> settling down in a big way. that's the good news. earlier today we did see a strong to severe thunderstorm making its way through loudoun county into montgomery and rthern fairfax county. for the most part, those storms are gone. the only storm we have are down into spotsylvania county andot even storm here. they were severe into part of orange county but since they've moved to the east, they are dying down. we still have a severe thunderstorm watch that is in effect for the entire area until 10:00 tonight. so there are still a few more storms upstream well to the north and west of the area. when i come back, i'll show what you i think those storm will be doing overnight. right now at 90 degrees. 90 in la plata. it was a very hot day today. i think it will be a hot day tomorrow as well. as we move through the night, a few scattered, maybe even isolated showers or thunderstorms. once again i don't recollect expectoo much out there. i'll show you those storms coming up. plus, tomorrow morning. skinl degrees, going to a high today into the 90s.

nature helping us out. so locations picking up two to three inches of rain already during the day today. you can see cloud cover across the d.c. area now and across the metro area. also just off to the st. we are looking at big time showers and big time heavy rain as well. that rain right now falling just to the west of frederick around hagerstown to morgantown west virginia,. winchester, berriville seeing heavy rain through western portions of louden county. as we widen out, more rain to the south around richmond. that rain will be making its way up to e d.c. area. also areas toward the east overnight tonight. that's where we could see some of the heaviest rain as we move through the night. a flash flood watch through the night tonight into tomorrow morning for all of the area just about. you see it highlighted. we'll see the chance for one to three inches of rain tonight into tomorrow morning. most of that will be localized. don't be surprised to see heavy rain in your area. 9:00 tonight, 11:00 tonight and more rain tomorrow morning around 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. it could be a r
